Simon Thompson Hadley 
Simon Thompson was born on September 23rd, 1801 in Chatham County, North Carolina.1 Simon Thompson's father was Simon Hadley and his mother was Elizabeth Thompson. His paternal grandparents were Joshua Hadley and Ruth Lindley; his maternal grandparents were James Thompson and Martha Chambers. He had seven brothers and six sisters, named James Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, Joshua Thompson, John T., Thomas Thompson, Jeremiah Thompson, William Thompson, Martha, Ruth, Sarah T., Elizabeth T., Eleanor and Mary T.. He was the seventh youngest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 70 on March 8th, 1872.1 General Notes
HADLEY, SIMON T. (deceased); was born in Chatham Co., N.C., Sept. 23, 1801; he learned the saddler's trade in 1818, and in the following year, 1819, commenced teaching school, and continued in that vocation for several years. He was married in 1824 to Mary Hadley, and two years later removed to Hendricks County, where he settled on a tract of land 2 1/2 miles southwest of Danville, then in the wild woods, and now owned in part by Dr. Furnas, and under a high state of cultivation. Mr. Hadley was elected Clerk and Recorder of Hendricks County in 1830, and commenced the discharge of these duties on July 26th of the same year. He removed to the town of Danville in the Spring of 1832, and was re-elected to the office of Recorder in 1837, 1844, 1851, and 1855, serving as County Clerk for seven years, and as Recorder twenty-nine years. On retiring from the duties of the Recorder's office, he commenced the practice of law, confining his practice mostly to probate matters, in settling estates and guardianships, in which he had an extensive business. At the organization of the First National Bank of Danville, in 1863, he was chosen President, and contributed much to the success of the institution; he
continued to hold his position as President until January, 1872, when he voluntarily retired, but continued as Director until his death. Mr. Hadley's wife died in 1866, and he on the 7th of March, 1872, in his 71st year. On Mr. Hadley's death, resolutions of regret at his loss and appreciation of his services as an honest and honorable business and official man, were passed by the leading citizens and members of the Hendricks County Bar. He was universally beloved and looked up to as a truly honest and trustworthy man, both in public and private life.
