Robert De Mortaigne was born about 1037 in , , , Normandy.  Robert De Mortaigne's father is Harlevin (Herlevin) De Conteville Seigneur and his mother is Herleve De Falais Concubine.  His paternal grandfather is Jean De Conteville; his maternal grandparents are Fulbert De Falais and Doda (Dode) () Concubine. He had a brother and two sisters, named Odo, Emma and Muriel.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named William I The Conqueror and Adelaide.  He died on December 8th, 1091.  He was buried in 1091.

They had three daughters named Agnes, Emma and Denise.
