Joseph Miles was born on April 9th, 1849 in , Hardin Co., MO. Joseph Miles' father was Thomas Herbert MC BRIDE and his mother was Harriet Susan SAMPSON. His paternal grandfather was Amos Evans MC BRIDE and his paternal grandmother is Hannah JOHNSON; his maternal grandfather was Benjamin SAMPSON and his maternal grandmother is Elizabeth NEFF. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin, Harry, Adriann, Mary Emma and Jessie Ann. He was the oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother named William Henry Harrison. He died at the age of 59 on April 3rd, 1909 in Basin, Cassia, ID.-
