Joan was born in 1264 in Oxford, Oxford, England. Joan's father was Robert de Vere and her mother was Alicia de Sanford. Her paternal grandparents were Hugh de Vere and Hawise de Quincy; her maternal grandfather was Gilbert de Sanford and her maternal grandmother is Lorette la Zouche. She had six brothers and a sister, named Robert, Hugh, Alfonso, Gilbert, Philip, John and Hawise. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children. She died in Bur Lewes, Sussex, England. She was buried in Lewes Priory, Lewes, Sussex, England.-
