Maria Elizabeth was born on June 19th, 1788 in Upper Milford Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Maria Elizabeth's father was Peter Wetzel and her mother is Anna Catharine. Her paternal grandparents were Johan Jacob Wetzel and Anna Maria Bassler. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Unknown, Johan Peter, Johan Henry, Johan George, Joseph, Catherine and Anna Maria. She is the fourth oldest of the eight children.-
