Louisa was born about 1852 in Kanawha County, Virginia. Louisa's father was John David Shaver and her mother was Nancy Tanner. Her paternal grandparents were Paul Shaver and Catherine Riffle. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Edward, Perry G., Frank, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel L., Malinda, Agnes, Martha and Margaret Lydia. She had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Paul, John D., Henry S., Henderson, Angnus, Susannah, Mary Catherine, Sarah Jane and Sidney.-
