His paternal grandparents were George Shaver and Marie Elizabeth. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Salathiel S., John S., David W. Jr., Susan and Christina. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died after 1900 in Poca District, Kanawha County, West Virginia.-
