Columbia's father was John Huddleston and his mother was Sarah Butcher. His paternal grandfather is Henry Huddleston; his maternal grandparents were John Butcher and Elizabeth Critton. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James M., Jasper, John Jefferson, William, Elizabeth, Letitia, Peninah and Romancy.-
