Leonard Heyer 
Leonard was born in December 1727 in Benken, Canton Basel, Switzerland. Leonard's father was Lienert Heyer and his mother is Clara Grace Lutzler. His paternal grandparents were Anton Heyer and Anna Elizabeth Ruflin; his maternal grandfather was Rudolph Lutzler. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Hans Rudolph, Hans Ulrich, Antoni, Ursula, Elizabeth, Clara, Magdalene, Eve and Anna Barbara. He died at the age of 58 on June 16th, 1786 in Hardy (now Grant County, West Virginia), Virginia.General Notes
According to Ancestry.com, CVAR family tree (plc@@ix.netcom.com): "Leonard
wrote a letter back to Switzerland in 1739, noting that his family and
that of Anton Reager were living in Tulpenhocken Twp., Lancaster (now
Berks) Co., Pennsylvania. The close-knit community of families who made
the voyage remained together at Tulpenhocken most of the decade.
Migration to VA has been speculated to have occured between 1743-1750,
when it was felt that the families joined the Scotch-Irish and German
settlers taking the Great Wagon Road from the back roads of Maryland and
Virginia to new lands. It is also felt that the decision to settle in
the Valley of the South Branch River, Potomac, was due to the similarity
of this area and the Palatine/Swiss Alp area they left in Europe."
