John W. Clifton 
John W. was born on December 22nd, 1767 in Augusta County or Ruddle, Pendleton County, Virginia. John W.'s father was William Clifton and his mother was Mary Conrad. His paternal grandparents are William Clifton and Elizabeth Brent; his maternal grandparents were Jacob Conrad and Frena Svena Lauk. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Ezekiel, John, Sarah L., Edith and Margaret Bartlett. He died at the age of 74 on June 6th, 1842 in Braxton County, Virginia. He was buried in Big Run Cemetery, Rt. Fork Hooly River, Webster County, West Virginia.General Notes
Family historians disagree as to whether his mother was Barbara Wanstaff
or Mary Conrad, and whether or not he was legitimate or illegitimate
child of William Clifton. I've places him as child of Mary Conrad since
he is an heir in Jacob Conrad's will. Some sources list his birth in Abt
1770.
