Thomas Dubh was born in 1531. Thomas Dubh's father was James the Lame Butler and his mother was Joan FitzGerald. His paternal grandparents were Piers Butler and Margaret FitzGerald; his maternal grandfather was James FitzMaurice FitzGerald and his maternal grandmother is Amy Mac-I-Brien-Ara. He had six brothers named Piers Butler of, James Butler of, John Butler of, Edmund Butler of, Walter Butler of and Edward Butler of. He was the oldest of the seven children. He died after 1583.-
