Henry was born in North Carolina.1 Henry's father was Richard Skaggs and his mother was Elizabeth Wells. His paternal grandfather was James Skaggs and his paternal grandmother is Rachael Susannah Moredock. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Benjamin, Shadrack, Meshack, John, John, Abednego, Sarah, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Rhoda and Lydia.
