Her paternal grandparents were William MacKeahey and Margaret Unknown; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Jackson and Christian Unknown. She had five brothers and a sister, named James,Jr., Samuel M., John, William L., George Burder and Eleanor. She was the youngest of the seven children.
