James,Jr. was born in 1780 in North Carolina.1 James,Jr.'s father was James Keahey and his mother was Mary Jane Jackson. His paternal grandparents were William MacKeahey and Margaret Unknown; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Jackson and Christian Unknown. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Samuel M., John, William L., George Burder, Eleanor and Margaret. He was the oldest of the seven children.
