Message: Vernon Keahey was born March 3, 1907 in Crawford , OK to Ura Su
rv illa and John Wesley Keahey and passed away September 13, 1995 in the R
og er Mills Memorial Hospital at the age of 88 years , 6 months and 10 da
ys .
Vernon grew up in Crawford , attending Little Crawford School . He lat
er a ttended Hammon High School . During his time at Hammon School he exce
ll ed in all sports , winning many tack medals . After graduati
ng in 19 27 he worked for several businesses in Cheyenne . He then work
ed for a pip eline construction company around Tulsa , later returni
ng to the Crawfo rd area where he farmed and ranched for the rest of his l
ife .
Vernon married Inez LaVerne Young on October 15, 1940 in Clint
on , OK . So on after their marriagfe he enlised in the U .S . Army . Aft
er his dischar ge he returned to Crawford . Besides farming and ranchi
ng he operated a da iry for several years . He married Lona Mae Coop
er on May 26, 1991 . Vern on served as a director on the Elk City Communi
ty Hospital Baord for 19 66 to 1978 , secretary for the Roger Mills Coun
ty Fair Board for a numb er of years , and was awarded a honorary 4 -Hl me
mbership for his servic es to area 4 -H clubs .
He was a meber of the Magnolia Baptist Church and served on the church b
oa rd for several years . Vernon was a loving husband , a wonderful lovi
ng fa ther to his children and a true friend to his friends .
He was preceded in death by his parents , first wife , 1 son Gary Elbr
id ge Keahey , 1 sister Lorene Luper , 1 half-sister Della Eads and 4 brot
he rs , Johnnie , Gerald , Alton and L .B .
He is survived by his wife , Lona Mae Keahey , Cheyenne , OK ; 1 daug
ht er and son-in-law , Kathy and Greg Duggan , Dalhart , TX ; 1 son and da
ugh ter in law , Charles and Mollie Heahey , Crawford , OK ; 1 stepson , T
om C ooper and wife Donna , Edmond , OK ; 2 sisters , Lois Painter , T
ul ia , TX and Audrey Rorabough , San Luis Obispo , CA ; 3 brothers , Alt
us K eahey , White Deer , TX , Leon Keahey , Crawford , OK and Edwein Ke
ah ey , Berlin , OK ; 6 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren ; a special fr
ie nd Ida Belle White , Dumas , TX and a host of other relatives and fri
en ds .
Services were Firday , Sept . 15, 1995, 10:30 a .m . at the Magnolia Bap
ti st Church officiated by Galen Isaacs and assisted by A .L . martin . In
ter ment6 was in the Silent Home Cemetery , Roll , Roger Mills Coun
ty , Ok und er the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral service .
