Wiley Sylvester was born on January 12th, 1862 in Madison Co., North Carolina.1 Wiley Sylvester's father is Wiley Gosnell and his mother was Margaret Elizabeth Sams. His maternal grandparents were Gabriel C. Sams and Mary Polly Hampton. He had four brothers and two sisters, named George Henderson, Milford Wade, Robert Bartley, William Rollins Dudley, Polly Dudley and Jeanetta Dudley. He was the third oldest of the seven children.
