Newton DeSpain 
Newton was born on February 18th, 1851 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky.1 Newton's father was John M. DeSpain and his mother was Mariah Perkins. His paternal grandparents were Peter DeSpain and Nancy Skaggs. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Milton Thomas, Silas, Mary Elizabeth and Belinda. He was the youngest of the five children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named William Marshall and Nancy. He died at the age of 64 on March 8th, 1915 in New London, Des Moines Co., Iowa.1 General Notes
