Genealogy Of Cleveland Family By E B Cleveland; Pg 2055-2056
Alexander CLEVELAND born, it is presumed, either in England or in Virgi
ni a, about 1659, died at the plantation of his son, John Clevelan
d, on Bl ue Run, in Orange Co., Va., about 1770 (within 3 days of the dea
th of h is wife), at the age of 111 years, married perhaps Milly Presley (
see belo w). His wife was born (birthplace unknown) about 1667, died at t
he homest ead of her son, John, on Blue Run, about 1770 (within 3 da
ys of the dea th of her husband), at the age of 103 years.
Evidently had at least the following children, born either in Eng
la nd or in Virginia, perhaps in Prince William Co., Va., on Bull Run: Jo
hn C leveland, born about 1695-1710. Alexander Cleveland, born about 1698-
171 0. Jeremiah Cleveland, born about 1700-1712. Micajah Cleveland (conjec
tur ed to be a son of Alexander, born about 1702-1712. Elizabeth Clevelan
d, bo rn about 1704-1716. William Cleveland, born about the year 1719, evi
dent ly was a son of Alexander Cleveland. Alexander Cleveland may have be
en t he original immigrant from England, or his father may have come, brin
gi ng him; the notes given in the account of his father may apply to hims
el f. In the entire absence of reliable records, there must alwa
ys be a wi de field for conjecture.
John Cleveland, with his father, the younger Alexander Cleveland, e
ar ly migrated to Virginia. Settled on the since famous Bull Run, in Pr
in ce William Co., Va. Removed [prior to 1734] some 60 miles to the south
wes t, locating in a border settlement on Blue Run, some six or eight mil
es ab ove its junction with the Rapidan, in Orange Co., near the line of A
lbemar le; he and wife dying there about 1770, within three days of each o
ther, w hen about 100 years. Alexander lived to be 111 years old and his w
ife 1 03 years old. Not improbably they had other children than those who
se nam es (except that of Micajah) are correctly given above, accordi
ng to eviden ce. John and Alexander were deeded land in Orange Co., 173
4. The na me of Micajah is not certain, nor is it sure that he was a chi
ld of Alexan der, but it seems very probably that he was either a s
on or a nephew of Al exander, having evidently originated in Va. William C
leveland stated th at his great-grandmother, or grandmother, was Milly Pre
sley. But it is ev ident that she was not the wife of Alexander Clevelan
