Marion Warner Overturf was a brother of my Grandfather, Lafayette Monroe Overturf. Marion ran a BlackSmith Shop on his farm which connected to my Grandfthers farm. He was well known for His good work as a Smithy. He lived in Davis County Iowa in Soapcreek Township, just about 1/4 mile from Soapcreek. There were 9 children who were the offspring of William and Sarah Overturf.
The family was involved with Sherman Chapel Church, and many of them are buried there. I slightly remember visiting "Uncle Marion" when I was a small child. I believe he died in 1951. I have the family tree back to Johannes Oberdorf born in 1754 in Germany, he and several other Oberdorf men came to america and settled near Pittsburg, Pa. and records are found in Jacobs Luthern Church of Masontown, Pa.
Johannes Oberdorf married a woman named Elizabeth Remley....shortly thereafter he
changed his name to John Overturf and moved west. The family settled in Ohio for a few generations, then in Illinois for a few more and then in southern Iowa...not doubt some went on to Nebraska. I know one of Grandpas brothers, Jacob Albert Overturf raised a big family in Nebraska. He used to come to visit when I was small.
My family tree goes from John Overturf to Simon Overturf (who married a French woman named Mary Debolt) to Eli Overturf to William Overturf and Sarah Shadley Overturf, who were the parents of my Grandfather Lafayette Monroe Overturf, and your Great...? Grandfather Marion Warner Overturf.
