His paternal grandparents were William J. Buerling and Elizabeth Uhr; his maternal grandparents were Peter Massie and Rachel Isabella Shipley. He had three brothers and a sister, named Ralph J., William Paul, Bunny and Lucille Mercedes. He was the youngest of the five children. Robert BURLING
Robert Frederick BURLING, 78, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1911, at his home.
Born Aug. 28, 1913, in Portsmouth, a son of the late William J. and Arvilla MASSIE BURLING, he was a retired salesman at Covert Furniture Co., a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
His wife, Mary KIRBY BURLING, whom he married July 29, 1939, in Portsmouth, preceded him in death March 27, 1974.
Surviving are a son, R. Jeffrey BURLING of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter, Maralee BURLING of Key West, Fla.; and a grandson, Jeffrey R. BURLING of Athens, Ohio.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene "Bunny" BURLING, Paul BURLING, and Ralph BURLING; and a sister, Lucille KILCOYNE.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. William MAROON officiating, and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home, where recitation of the rosary is planned at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Paid Obituary
