Mrs. Elizabeth BURLING, 88, of 1214 Franklin avenue, died at 9:15 a.m. Monday at her home after an illness of the last two weeks of complications.
Mrs. BURLING was born Oct. 29, 1850 at Hilden, Near Dusseldorf, Germany. She was the widow of William BURLING, who died 32 years ago. The family came to the United States in 1883 and located in Ironton, moving to Portsmouth in 1891. Mrs. BURLING was a member of St. Mary church and of the Married Ladies Scociety. She was the mother of 14 children. Four children died in infancy and three other children preceded her in death.
Surviving are these children, William BURLING on Eighth, and Frank BURLING of Norwood, Miss Margaret and Henry BURLING at home. Charles F. BURLING of Alpine, Texas, Bernard O. BURLING 518 Sixth street, and Alfred J. BURLING of Waverly. She also leaves 30 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary church, with a solemn requiem high mass. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery at Greenlawn, under the direction of Pfeiffer. The body is at the residence.
Members of the Married Ladies society of St. Mary church will meet at the home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to recite the Rosary.
