Louis II The German was born in 0800 in France.1 Louis II The German's father was Louis Le Debonaire HOLY ROMAN EMP and his mother was Irmengard DE HESBAIN. His paternal grandparents were Charlemagne UNKNOWN and Hildegarde UNKNOWN; his maternal grandfather was Ingeramne DE HESBIAN. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Lothar, Louis, Pepin, Hildegard and Adelaide Aelis. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Charles, Louis II and Gisela. He died in Frankfort, Brandenburg, Germany.1 General Notes

, to fight another, Lothair I, for control of the empire. T
he Treaty of Verdun
in 843 gave Louis all of Germany east of the Rhine River.
