His paternal grandparents were Michael Cadet YOUNG and Martha SADDLER; his maternal grandfather was Robert (Gentleman) JOHNSON. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Henry, William, Archibald, Mary, Nancy, Temperance and Susan. He was the second youngest of the eight children.
