John (Jan) Gerretse was born in 1639 in Flatlands, Long Island, New York. John (Jan) Gerretse's father was Garret Gerrit Wolferse Vankouenhoven and his mother was Aeltie COOL. His paternal grandparents were Wolfert Gerre Van COUWENHOVEN and Neeltje JANS; his maternal grandparents were Cornelis COOL and Altien BRACKHONGE. He had two brothers and three sisters, and also two siblings of unknown gender, named William Gerritse Gerreat, William Gerrettsen, Neeltje Gerretse, Marretje Gerrestse, Aaltje, Jacomyntje and Jakemijntje. He died at the age of 85 in 1724 in Flatlands, Long Island, New York. He was buried in 1724.General Notes
