Robert was born about 1187. Robert's father was Richard de Molyneux and his mother was Edith le Botiller. His paternal grandparents were Robert de Molyneux and Beatrice de Villiers; his maternal grandparents were William le Botiller and Christina de Stainton. He had a brother named Sir Adam. He was the younger of the two children. He had five half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William, Thomas, Peter, John, Julian, Agnes and Alice.-
