Alfonso VI 'the Valiant' 
Alfonso VI 'the was born in 1043 in Burgos, Spain. Alfonso VI 'the's father was Ferdinand I Sanchez "the Great" and his mother was Princess of Lâeon Sancha. His paternal grandparents were III Sancho and Munia Mayor; his maternal grandparents were Alfanso V De Leon and Elvira Melendez. He had two brothers and two sisters, named II, King of Castile, Princess of Castile and Lâeon and Princess of Castile and Lâeon. He was the youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 66 on June 30th, 1109.General Notes
Alfonso I (of Castille), called The Brave (1030-1109), king of Castile (1072-1109), and as Alfonso VI, king of León (1065-1109). His father, King Ferdinand I of Castile and León, died in 1065 and left his kingdom, divided into three parts, to his three sons. Alfonso received only León, but he succeeded to nearly all his father's dominions as a result of a war with his brothers, and he also added Toledo and New Castile to his holdings. In 1086 the Abbadids of Seville, with Almoravid help, defeated him at Zalaca and stopped the gradual reconquest of Spain by the Christian rulers. Alfonso regained some of his power, but in 1108, a year before his death, the Almoravids defeated him again and killed his only son.
