Mathilde of was born about 1050.  Mathilde of's father was Edward the Ætheling and her mother was Agatha Von Brunswick.  Her paternal grandparents were Edmund II 'Ironside' and Edith (Eadgyth); her maternal grandparents were Ludolphe Von Brunswick and Countess of Eguisheim Gertruda. She had a brother and two sisters, named Edgar, Christina and Margaret "the Saint" of.  She was the youngest of the four children.
