Avicia was born about 1326 in Bedale, Yorkshire, England. Avicia's father was Gilbert De Stapleton and her mother was Agnes Fitz Alan. Her paternal grandparents were Sir Miles II De Stapleton and Sybil De Belleau; her maternal grandparents were Sir Brian Fitz Alan and Maud.
