Sir Henry was born about 1171 in Codner, Derbyshire, England.  Sir Henry's father was John de Grey and his mother was Elena De Clare.  His paternal grandparents were Anchitel de Grey and Eva de Redviers; his maternal grandparents were Roger "The Good" De Clare and Maud de St. Hilary. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Robert, Walter, John, Eva and Agnes.  He was the oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother named Robert.  He died in 1219 in Thurrock, Essex, England.


Sir Henry's family with Isolda (Iseude) Bardolf

‌Sir Henry and Isolda (Iseude) were married in a religious ceremony in 1199 in Thurock, Essex, England.  They had seven sons and a daughter, named Richard, Hugh, William, Sir John, Robert, Archbishop of York, Henry and Joan.
