Johannes was born about 1018 in Constantinople, Turkey. Johannes' father was Manuel Comnenus and his mother was Anna. His paternal grandparents were Isaak Comnenus and Maria Erotica. He had a brother named I. He was the younger of the two children. He died in 1067.
