George was born in Roanoke,Virginia. George's father was Thomas Rutledge and his mother was Jean Armstrong. His maternal grandparents were James Armstrong and Janey. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Edward, John, Thomas, James, Ann, Catherine, Elizabeth, Jean and Mary. He died on April 29th, 1821 in Montgomery Co. Virginia.-
