John was born in 1749. John's father was Samuel Dewees and his mother was Mary Coburn. His paternal grandparents were Lewis-Lambertus Dewees and Mary Wheeler. He had four brothers named Samuel, Joshua, Cornelius and David. He died at the age of 65 in 1814 in Wharton Twp.,Fayette County,PA.-
