Dominique was born on March 27th, 1702 in Quebec, Canada.  Dominique's father was Pedro Le Portugais and his mother was Marie-Jeanne Greslon Dit Laviolette.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Dasilva and Marie Francois; his maternal grandparents were Jacques Greslon Dit Laviolette and Jeanne Vignault. He had six brothers and seven sisters, named Pierre, Jean Marie, Francois, Nicolas Dasilva Dit, Jean Marie, Jean Marie, Marie-Louise, Marie Madeleine, Marie Therese, Marie Elisabeth, Marie Anne, Jeanne Catherine and Marie Jeanne.  He was the third youngest of the fourteen children.
