Nicholas II was born about 1630 in Festhubert, Artois, now Pas de Calai, France.  Nicholas II's father was Nicholas de Vaux and his mother was Susanne Francois.  He was an only child.

‌Nicholas II and Marie were married in a religious ceremony on July 10th, 1667 in Mannheim, Germany.1   They had two sons and three daughters, named Abraham, John, Marie, Hester and Susanna.
