Joan was born about 1232 in Dudley, Warwickshire, England. Joan's father was Lord Dudley Roger de Somery and her mother was Nichole d'Aubigny. Her maternal grandparents were 3rd Earl of Arundel William d' Aubigny and Mabel le Meschin. She had three sisters named Margaret, Mabel and Maud. She was the second youngest of the four children. She had a half-brother named Roger. She died in 1282 in Knockin, Oswestry, Shropshire, England.-
