Benoni Merritt 
Benoni was born in 1702 in Rye, Westchester Co., New York. Benoni's father was Thomas III Merritt and his mother was Martha Marshall. His paternal grandparents were Thomas II Merritt and Jane Sherwood. He had three brothers and a sister, named Edward, John, Thomas VI and Mercy. He was the third oldest of the five children.-
