Alan IV of Bretagne, known as Rufus, was born about 1044 in Bretagne, France.  Rufus' father was Duke Hoel of Bretagne (Cornuaille) and his mother was Hawise of Bretagne.  His paternal grandparents were Ct. Alan of Cornouaille and Judith of Nantes; his maternal grandparents were Duke Alain III of Bretagne and Berthe of Blois.  He was an only child.  He died on October 13th, 1119.


Rufus' family with Ermengardeof Anjou

‌Rufus and Ermengardeof Anjou were married in a religious ceremony in 1093.  They had a son and a daughter, named le Gros and Hawise of Bretagne.
