ELEANOR was born about 1246 in Bernard Castle, Gainford, Durham, England.1   ELEANOR's father was JOHN de BALIOL and her mother was DEVORGUILLA de GALLOWAY.  Her paternal grandparents were HUGH de BALIOL and CECILY de (Fountaines) FONTAINES; her maternal grandparents were ALAN MC DONAL LORD de GALLOWAY and MARGARET de HUNTINGTON. She had a brother and two sisters, named JOHN BALIOL KING, Ada and CECILIA.  She was the second youngest of the four children. She had a half-sister named JOAN.
