Joan (Jane) was born in 1479 in Llanfarthin, Monmouthshire, England.1   Joan (Jane)'s father was THOMAS (Sir) ap MORGAN and her mother was JANE HERBERT.  Her paternal grandparents were MORGAN ap JENKIN MORGAN and ELIZABETH VAUGHAN; her maternal grandparents were JOHN (William) HERBERT and N.N. verch LEWIS. She had eight brothers and six sisters, named John, Henry, WILLIAM (Sir), Philip, Thomas, George, Morgan, Harry, Margaret, Mawd (Maud), Elizabeth, N.N., Catrin and N.N..  She was the fourth oldest of the fifteen children.
