Her paternal grandparents were Elias Jeanerette and Margaret Portervine Poitevint. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named William, Wilson, Samuel Thomas, Jr., Isaac, Joseph James, Benjamin, Elias Pickens, Lucindia, Elizabeth A., Margaret Anne and Julia.
