Ethel Cornelia was born on January 5th, 1914.1 Ethel Cornelia's father was John Henry Houston and her mother was Mary Cassandra Douglas. Her paternal grandparents were William Henry Houston and Civility Priscilla Bennett; her maternal grandparents were Archibald McLendon Douglas and Cassandra Augusta Hurley. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Ned Douglas, Harry Hilton, John Henry, Jr., Gladys Lucile, Wilda, Mary and Mabel. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
