He had three brothers named Arnfinn Thorfinnsson 10th Jarl of, Havard Thorfinnsson 11th Jarl of and Liot Thorfinnsson 12th Jarl of. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died about 0988 in Hofn, Caithness-shire, Scotland.General Notes

Hlodve, who had previously m. Audna, Edna or Ethne, da. of "Kiarval, the Irish King," (f) who seems to have protected him from his sister-in-law, and had issue a son, Sigurd Digri, and two daughters. He d. in his bed circa 988, and was bur, at Hofn in Caithness. He was succeeded by his only recorded son, [Complete Peerage, X:Appendix A:7-8]
(f) Kiarval has not been identified. J. Anderson suggests Cearbhall, King of Dublin and Ossory, but that prince d. 888.
