William "The Protector" was born in 1146 in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  William "The Protector"'s father was John "The Marshall" Fitzgilbert and his mother was Sibilla (Sibyl) De Salisbury.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Fitz Richard De Clare [Earl Hertford] and Miss De Venoix; his maternal grandparents were Of Salisbury Walter De Fitz Of Salisbury/Enreux and Sybil De Chaworth. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John Le, Anselm, Henry, Daughter, Maud and Margaret Fitzgilbert.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 73 on May 14th, 1219 in Caversham Manor, England.  He was buried in May 1219 in Temple Church, London, England.

‌William "The Protector" and Isabel De were married in a religious ceremony in August 1189 in London, Middlesex, England.  They had five sons and five daughters, named Gilbert VII Earl Of Pembroke, William, Richard, Anselm, Walter, Sybil, Maud, Eve, Isabel and Joane.
