John "The Marshall" was born about 1126 in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  John "The Marshall"'s father was Gilbert Fitz Richard De Clare [Earl Hertford] and his mother was Miss De Venoix.  His paternal grandparents were [Lord De Bienfai Richard Fitzgilbert 1St Earl De Clare [Lord De Bienfai and Rohese Giffard; his maternal grandparents were Godfrey De Venoix and Mrs. Godfrey 1060 De Venoix. He had five half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Walter De, Baldwin Fitzgilbert De, Richard Fitz Gilbert De, Gilbert "Strongbow" De, Hervey De, Adeliza (Alice) De, Hawise De, Margaret De, Agnes De and Rohesia De.  He died in 1164 in England.
