Maud de was born about 1279 in Wilton Castle, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, England.  Maud de's father was John 2nd Baron de Grey , of Wilton and her mother was Maud de Verdun.  Her paternal grandparents were Reynold 1st Baron de Grey , of Wilton, Sir and Maud de Longchamp , Heiress of Wilton; her maternal grandparents were John le Botiller de John le , Sir/, Sir and Eleanor de Bohun , Heiress of Debden. She had two brothers and a sister, named Henry 3rd Baron de, Roger 1st Baron de and Joan de.  She was the oldest of the four children.

‌Maud de and John 1st Baron de were married in a religious ceremony before 1302 in 2nd wife.  They had two sons named Roger 3rd Baron de and John 4th Baron de.
