William De Ferrers VI Earl of was born in 1170 in Ferrers, Derbyshire, England.  William De Ferrers VI Earl of's father was William Ferrers V Earl of Derby and his mother was Sybil De Braose.  His paternal grandparents were Robert De Ferrers IV Earl of Derby and Margaret Peverell; his maternal grandparents were William Baron De Braose II Lord of Bramber and Bertha De Pitres. He had a brother and a sister, named Henry and Agatha.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Robert de Ferrers Lord Eggington & and Isabel.  He died at the age of 77 on September 22nd, 1247.
