Robert C. was born in 1856 in Shelby County, Indiana. Robert C.'s father was William Zike and his mother was Mary Phares. His paternal grandparents were David Zike and Catherine Smith. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William Riley, Roscoe W., Hanibal, Charles P., Sarah F., Judella and Mary Sue. He had two half-brothers named Charles and Joseph A.. He died at the age of 62 in 1918 in Capac, Michigan.-
