Thursa was born on April 12th, 1897. Thursa's father was Charles Edgar Shields and her mother was Elizabeth Jane Hedrick. Her paternal grandparents were William C. Shields and Elizabeth A. Deckard. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Brady Thacker, Jack, Lelia, Cordelia, Goldie Lillian and Sylvia. She was the third oldest of the seven children.-
