General Notes

Sarah married Sidney Odell and they moved to Owensburg in the late
1840's. Sidney was a successful merchant in Owensburg until his death in
1873.
Sarah married George Inman in March 1878. George died in Feb. 1880. Sarah
and her family sold all their land holdings around Owensburg in the mid
1880's. This information is from my research of the Land Deed Indexes at
the Greene Co. Courthouse.
I have seen information on the internet that Sarah married Alex Burton,
but I can't find any records of this.
Sarah was born about 1822 in Lawrence Co., Indiana. At the sales of
George Inman's estate in March 1880, Lilburn was present and purchased at
least one item.
1850 Census, Jackson twp., Greene Co., In., with husband and four kids.
Lucinda was spelled as "Lucindaetta". Sidney was 29 yrs old and Sarah was
27. He was a Merchant.
1860 Census, Owensburg, Jackson Twp., Greene Co., In., with husband and 7
kids and two Store Clerks as boarders. The store must have been
profitable, he listed $1500 in Real Estate and $8000 in Personal goods.
Lucinda is spelled correctly. Belle is listed as 5 yrs. old and Ella is
spelled "Ellen". Also, listed at 1585, 1585 on the census , is Tobias M.
O'Dell, 14 yrs., and Lucinda O'Dell, 11 yrs. living in the household of
Henry---- (couldn't read the name). Just mentioned this because it puts
the two Lucinda's only 1 year apart in age and it could be confusing.
1870 Census, Owensburg, Jackson twp., Greene Co., In., with husband and 4
kids at home. Plus, daughter Mary F. Cooper is there with Charles, and a
boarder, Thomas Miller, 29 yrs., Engineer. Belle and Ella are not listed;
Dora is probably Nora, from the age given, and Helen is listed as 8 yrs.
old. Sidney is listed as a Distiller with $5000 in Real Estate and $5000
in Personal. O'Dell was spelled "Odell" on this census.
Sidney died before the 1880 census. Sarah "Sallie" married George Inman
in March 1878, Greene Co., Book K, pg 288. George's first wife died about
4 months before. George died in Feb. 1880, before the census was taken,
so Sarah is listed as "Sallie" Inman, head of the household.
1880 Census, Owensburg, Jackson Twp., Greene Co., In., (Sarah was listed
as "Sallie") with Nannie O'Dell, 38, dau.; Charlie Cooper, 14, G.son;
Gerturde Miller, 8, G.dau.; Josie Stough, 26, dau; Ethel Stough, 6,
G.dau.; and Claude Stough, 3, G.son. I don't know who Gertrude is, maybe
the daughter of Thomas Miller and one of the O'Dell daughters. Thomas was
a boarder in the household on the 1870 census.
Sarah's brother, Lilburn Owens, built the first log cabin and opened a
Blacksmith Shop where Owensburg sets today, in 1842. In 1848, Lilburn and
Emanual Hatfield layed out 40 lots for the Town of Owensburg. By the
1870's Owenburg had over 300 people.
