Sarah was born on June 21st, 1778 in , , N.C.. Sarah's father was Francis Winstead and her mother was Catherine. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Winstead and Winifred. She had four brothers named Ezekiel, Francis, Matthew and Ephraim. She was the second oldest of the five children. She died before 1860 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.-
